Lifestyle, My Life As a VA (Virtual Assistant)

Hey, Lovelies!

I have received several emails lately about what I do for a living so, I will try to go into more detail in this post. I am a Virtual Assistant. What is a Virtual Assistant?

Maybe you’ve heard of working as a “Virtual Assistant” or “VA”… but you don’t really know what a Virtual Assistant does?

You may have heard of virtual assistants like Siri or Alexa, but that’s not what I’m talking about here. Sure, those systems can tell you the weather or make a grocery list for you — but the Virtual Assistant services that I offer are much more valuable.

A Virtual Assistant is any type of remote assistant who provides administrative, creative, or technical support services for online or brick and mortar business owners.

What do VAs do?

There are literally hundreds of tasks that you could do as a Virtual Assistant, but some of the most common services are:
Answering customer service emails
Posting on social media for business
Writing or blogging
Calendar management
Appointment setting.

As a Virtual Assistant, I’m my own boss. I work as an independent contractor (NOT as an employee) for my clients. Here are some of the best things about being a Virtual Assistant. You set your own hours, You set your own rate and You decide where and how you work.

If you have ever considered being a VA and don’t know where to begin. Here is an awesome checklist that you might find useful.

Psalm 5:3 (NIV) “In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.”

I think I’ve always known I was an entrepreneur. I continually thought up business ideas when I was really little.

Throughout high school and college, I woke up suddenly and frequently with various business plan outlines.

I’ve bought domain names in the middle of the night and/or when I would think of random business possibilities. (I think I’ve owned over 100 domains.)

I just knew it was inside of me somewhere to create my own business.

So here I was, jobless, and looking for a way to survive. That’s when I started doing something VERY dangerous…

3 AM Googling.

Never give up

Maybe in the same way you ended up on this blog, I started searching for “work-from-home” ideas.

I had attempted a few at-home businesses before. For a while, I sold tees online. However, none of these business ventures got the traction I was looking for to replace my full-time income.

That’s when a crush of mine suggested I looked into virtual assistance. To be honest, I had never even heard of a virtual assistant.

I went home to search and scour every blog post, email, and ebook out there on how to become a virtual assistant. The more I researched virtual assistance, the more I thought… I can DO this!

So I found everything that I COULD find and began calling myself a “VA”.

Can I tell you the craziest thing? I wasn’t 100% convinced that this whole thing was going to work when I first started.

I mean – it made sense that small business owners would want to outsource some of their tasks, but I had SO many questions.

But sure enough, I started getting myself out there and the craziest thing happened….

From my first client to the next and the next I realized HOLY CRAP… I was on to something.

I was actually my own boss and I never went back!
Let me know if you found this useful and if you’ve ever considered being a VA.
